A one day conference focusing on future arrangements for local authority counter-fraud activity in relation to housing benefit and council tax benefit. The conference provides a timely examination of future funding of HB and CTB counter-fraud work by local authorities and the move towards a compliance regime.
During the past few years DWP funding for council benefit counter-fraud has driven the agenda on prosecutions and sanctioning. As a result more people are being prosecuted. Yet at the same time the DWP is reorganising its counter-fraud teams to reflect trends in using compliance to manage minor breaches of benefit rules.
The conference looks at the key issues facing local authority fraud managers operating in an environment that is moving towards compliance and restorative principles and away from criminal investigation. It will look at how fraud can be managed in a modern criminal justice environment with regard to financial and social cost effectiveness.
The conference is highly relevant to Benefit Managers and Counter-Fraud Managers – it will focus on the financial and organisational issues that affect management and financial planning for benefit anti-fraud work from 2006.
