A Community Safety Conference - In partnership with the Local Government Association

A Community Safety Conference - In partnership with the Local Government Association

Monday 23 February 2004
Local Government House

The Police Reform Act 2002 recently introduced a system of accreditation for wardens and other non-police personnel involved in supporting communities in maintaining safer communities. The system provides assured standards and additional powers for accredited wardens.

The local authority role in setting up accreditation schemes is key. The schemes consolidate the partnership approach taken by police and local authorities in tackling crime and disorder and enable the authority to have an important role in the setting of local standards for accreditation. Accreditation is one of the key issues to consider for authorities in dealing with anti-social behaviour and maintaining safer communities – a role highlighted by the inclusion of a safer communities element in the CPA of 2005/6. The introduction of accreditation assists local authorities in delivering safer communities through assured standards, greater visibility and additional powers of their employees and contractors.

This one-day conference focuses on accreditation and the role of the local authority. It also provides an in-depth look at case studies from pilot areas
