A Crime and Disorder Conference

The CDRP Reform Programme -
Scrutiny, Accountability and Public
Engagement

This is a further chance to attend this conference. The 27th April conference is now fully booked.

Thursday 24th May
Local Government House, Smith Square, Westminster SW1

The Crime and Disorder Act Review and the Police and Justice Act 2006 will change the current framework under which CDRPs operate from spring 2007 onwards. The new arrangements for Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships provide for new statutory roles for scrutiny committees and reflect central government’s objectives to increase visibility and accountability of partnerships. In order to achieve this there will be a new requirement to involve the community safety cabinet member (portfolio holder) in strategic planning and a requirement to make partnerships engage with communities through ‘Face the People’ sessions and the introduction of the ‘Community Call for Action’. Provision has also been made for community redress if community safety issues have not been effectively dealt with.
This one-day conference will provide an examination of the changing structure and accountability of CDRPs and will prepare Community Safety Managers, CDRP members and Cabinet Members (Portfolio Holders) for the forthcoming changes
under the new Act through an in-depth look at some of the key issues including scrutiny arrangements, the role of the portfolio holder and new duties regarding engagement of the community.

  • To prepare Cabinet Members (Portfolio Holders), Community Safety Managers and CDRP members for the forthcoming changes under the new Act.
