We are pleased to announce the 4th Annual Restorative Approaches in Education and Residential Care Conference. This conference for teachers, residential care workers and educationalists is growing and developing. The conference has now been extended to two days to enable the inclusion of an introductory session for those new to restorative approaches. This first day will provide a background to
restorative approaches and how these can be used to establish an emotionally literate relationship and behaviour management policy within a school. More experienced practitioners are also welcome to the first day to refresh their thinking and share best practice. The second day of the conference will then provide an in-depth exploration of some of the more challenging issues that a restorative approach can address successfully: low-level disruption, bullying, gang conflict and tensions involving prejudice.
Delegates may attend one or both days and are warmly invited to join the conference dinner on 28th February.
A New Conference Style
The 2008 conference will embed restorative principles into the way the conference is run. Instead of being talked to by experts, delegates will have the chance to work with them, and each other, in a highly interactive way.
The conference will be using a World Café approach – this is a conference technique for involving large numbers of people in sharing questions and perspectives and deepening understanding through dialogue and challenging questions. The conference will aim not only to talk about restorative practice but also to model a number of these approaches to it.
Networking at refreshment breaks is extremely valuable and this conference is almost all ‘coffee break’, but it is carefully structured, spiced with some preliminary input from people with a lot of experience and wisdom and peppered with thought-provoking questions for delegates to consider.
