Restorative practises are being increasingly used as part of behaviour management in schools and residential homes. Those using restorative approaches report lower levels of bullying, anti-social behaviour and exclusions.
In a restorative school or residential home mutual respect is critical for people to be able to live and work together in safety and harmony. Mutual respect involves everyone valuing each other, listening to each other and being committed to resolving difficulties in such a way that everyone feels that their perspective has been heard, their feelings appreciated and their needs addressed.
The 3rd Annual Restorative Approaches in Education and Care conference brings those working in education and in the care sector together to share their experiences of developing restorative communities and dealing with the day-to day-challenges in such settings using a set of flexible restorative approaches.
The importance of the wider local authority context is also explored since restorative approaches are critical in delivering key aspects of the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda.
The conference will provide information for those new to restorative approaches and will look at innovative practises and sustainability for those already working within restorative
