The 5th Annual Restorative
Approaches in Education and
Residential Child Care Conference
MAKING THE LINKS…
Day 1: Winning Hearts and Minds
Making the case, in schools and residential settings,
for an emotionally literate, highly
effective way to address low-level disruption, conflict,
bullying and challenging behaviour.
Day 2: Individual, Organisation, Region
Understanding how you fit into the wider picture of
restorative partnerships and cross agency approaches to bullying, anti-social or offending
behaviour and violence reduction.
Day 1 will
focus on how to get started: senior managers from
primary, secondary, special schools and residential
homes will share their experiences. Each will have a
different story but all will inspire and encourage those
who are new to the approach. Following their
presentations, our World Café and workshops will ensure
that, however experienced or inexperienced you are,
there will be those who can learn from you, and those
who will encourage you to do even more.
Day 2 will look at the development of restorative
approaches beyond your educational or youth
establishment, and how restorative partnerships and
cross-agency working within an area can help create
safer communities for us all to live in. Afternoon
discussions will focus on individuals’ contributions
to this wider stage, from whatever role they find
themselves in currently.
Conference Style
The 2009
conference will employ a variety of formats. Highly
regarded plenary speakers
will share their knowledge and wisdom; workshops will
enable in-depth exploration of key issues, and a World
Café approach will be used to enable deepening
understanding through dialogue and challenging
questions.
This mixture of approaches allows the embedding of
restorative principles into the way the conference is
run. Delegates will have the chance to work with experts
and with each other in a highly interactive way.
Previous
Conferences
The annual Restorative Approaches in Education and
Residential Child Care conferences have brought together
professionals from a variety of disciplines: teachers,
social workers, education and school managers, YOTS
personnel and Local Authority officers and elected
members. The conference is unfailingly challenging.
Here are just a few quotes from delegates at the
Restorative Approaches 2008 conference:
“thought-provoking
and inspiring”
“a superb
awareness of restorative approaches with a variety of
contributors and really good mix of contributors and
delegates”
“I was
inspired by colleagues and had lots of ‘light
bulb’ moments”
“very
good structure and organisation - many thanks to all
concerned for a valuable
experience”
“a very
interesting two days - thank you”
“I was
inspired by the speakers and have gained renewed
enthusiasm and insights - buzzing with ideas”
