10.30 Producing PSIAs: an overview
Spencer Chainey, the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, UCL

The introductory session provides an overview of the production of PSIAs. Spencer Chainey has carried out extensive training and development of a model of producing assessments that moves away from merely reviewing by crime type and themes instead producing assessments around victim, offender and location.
11.00 Strategic Use of the PSIA: how the PSIA is used to set priorities and the commissioning of delivery

This session explores how the PSIA can be used by the local authority in its strategic planning around safer communities, in particular the setting of priorities and commissioning of delivery.

12.00 The National Crime Reduction Strategy

This presentation provides an examination of the National Strategy and identifies the main issues that CDRPs should be mindful of in producing PSIA and refreshed strategies for April 2010. It will also cover the forthcoming Parliamentary Programme and the new duty on CDRPs to reduce reoffending in relation to PSIAs.

This address will look at the use of intelligence assessments from a police perspective and a police view on the challenges that CDRPs must consider in producing their assessments. The presentation will also provide a view on bringing together local police intelligence and the CDRP assessments into one document.

13.50 The role of CDRPs within the “Working Together to Protect Crowded Places” Programme and Wider Counter Terrorism Strategy (CONTEST)
DCI Chris Phillips, Head of National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO)

In April 2009 public consultation was published that sets out how local authorities and communities can work together to implement counter-terrorist security advice. This follows the Home Office’s revised counter-terrorism strategy – CONTEST. This presentation will provide a background to the consultation, the role of local partnerships in counter-terrorist security and in protecting the public.

14.50 Predicting Crime Trends within the Economic Recession

The economic climate is related to crime patterns. This presentation provides the latest research on the link and expected impact of the economy on crime patterns. This is of particular importance to CDRP future planning.

 

15.15 Patterns and Objectives in Drugs Strategy
Drugs Strategy Unit, the Home Office

This session will look at the trends in drug markets and availability and the challenges this may present for CDRP PSIAs. It will also examine proposed developments and the revised drug strategy requirements that should be considered when producing assessments and revised local strategies.
